Friends, therapy & alcohol
It’s a soggy one this weekend here in Plymouth. ‘Tis the season to get cosy and wear a jumper. It’s also the season to get a cold, which is what I have at the moment. Please send warm wishes as I sound like Barry White, but not as sexy, obviously! It seems as if the whirlwind of the last few months wasn't enough to rattle me, I'm feeling better in one way my body has now gone… you need a flu like cold… haha! Yes, thanks but no thanks.
Dancing in the rain
Still, rainy weekends and stinking colds are great ways to get thinking and to reflect on life. I got some music on and thought I’d string some words together and get it out. When you’re in the midst of something horrible it’s hard to see through the fog, I’m pleased to say that I’m out the other side of it for the most part. Definitely this time. No pretending to myself that I’m ok. It’s still raining, actually outside and in my life but the difference is now I’m more inclined to dance in it… haha!
Friends, Therapy & Alcohol
It hasn’t been an easy place to get to and it was a relentless and anxious place to be. I am beginning to feel like myself again though, and I’m not feeling like I need to isolate myself anymore. A couple of friends have pointed out that I don’t need to be my best self to keep in touch. Fair enough and thank you. I do cherish the few friends I do have and need to be present more. That’s one thing amongst many that I want to tackle in therapy. I’m very good at shutting down and shutting myself away but that hasn’t ever proved to be the most effective solution in dealing with anything.
I have my first proper therapy session next week and I’m hoping it will be the beginning of a new chapter. I’m very much mid-life now and maybe I’ve had a crisis, but instead of buying a sports car I have gone into therapy instead…haha! As they say, life begins at 40, I’m 44 now so time to get this show on the road I guess and keep evolving for the better. Therapy and friends and looking forward is a good start. I haven’t been drinking either. Not that I had a problem with alcohol, it's just it affects my mood and doesn’t help my anxiety or hangxiety. Over the past two months I have had a total of two pints. I haven’t missed it to be honest, though the first sip of the first pint was bliss. The second pint, not so much and sat far too heavy in my tum, so I went home. I’m not saying I’ll never have a drink again but excessive alcohol consumption is a young person's game. Remind me of this if you ever see me out in the future and clearly had too much. I have been known to get the taste when the mood feels right… ha!
But for now I’m taking it easy on a lot of things and just trying to get myself back together, whole again and moving forward. This cold ain’t helping but you know, it is what it is and I will survive, I will live and will keep dancing in the rain and not lying down in the puddles of life.
Thanks for reading. Pete :)
